Southbrook Vineyards: Regenerative Organic Certified™

Southbrook Vineyards is proud to be the only Canadian winery to hold all three major sustainability certifications: Organic, Biodynamic, and Regenerative Organic Certified™. Our commitment to sustainable winemaking and environmental stewardship sets us apart, ensuring that every bottle we produce supports a healthier planet and a more resilient ecosystem.

Certification

Regenerative Organic Certified™ is a revolutionary certification that represents the highest standard for organic agriculture in the world. It builds upon the USDA Certified Organic standard and incorporates rigorous requirements for soil health, animal welfare, and social fairness. This holistic approach ensures that certified farmers and producers grow food sustainably, enhance the land, foster biodiversity, and promote ethical farming practices.

Regenerative Agriculture at Southbrook:

At Southbrook, regenerative organic agriculture is more than a certification—it’s a philosophy that guides every aspect of our vineyard. Our farming practices focus on restoring soil health and enhancing the farm ecosystem. We use cover cropping, crop rotation, minimal soil disturbance, and composting to build soil fertility, sequester carbon, and improve biodiversity. We also avoid synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, relying instead on nature’s balance to protect our vines and sustain a thriving environment.

Our vineyard’s commitment to regenerative organic practices includes:

  • Vegetative Cover: We keep our land covered year-round with diverse cover crops, drawing down carbon, returning nutrients to the soil, and preventing erosion.
  • Cover Crop Rotation: By rotating crops, we optimize soil health, reduce pest pressure, and naturally suppress weeds.
  • Minimal Soil Disturbance: Our low-till approach preserves soil microbiology, retains water, and prevents carbon loss.
  • Compost Application: We enhance soil structure and biodiversity by adding microbe-rich compost, boosting soil fertility and carbon sequestration.
  • No Synthetic Fertilizers or Pesticides: Instead of chemicals, we foster natural pest control through beneficial plants, animals, and insects, keeping our ecosystem in balance.

Biodiversity at Southbrook

Our entire wine production is powered by 432 solar panels, allowing us to craft premium organic and biodynamic wines with 100% renewable energy. By choosing Southbrook, you’re not just enjoying world-class wines—you’re supporting a vineyard dedicated to regenerating the land, fostering biodiversity, and leading the way in sustainable winemaking.

In addition to our commitment to soil health, we actively support biodiversity and wildlife on our farm. Our vineyard protects 15 acres of forest and naturalized buffer zones, creating a haven for native species. Our berm along the drainage canal serves as a vital wildlife corridor, while our milkweed stations provide habitat for monarch butterflies. We also encourage beneficial predators, such as American kestrels, coyotes, and parasitic wasps, to maintain a balanced vineyard ecosystem naturally.
