Bill and Marilyn Redelmeier will travel to New York City to accept tonight a Citation for Excellence in the Good Design is Good BusinessAwards. “This award is particularly gratifying because not only were the architects recognized for great design, but our owners as well for their sound and insightful business decisions,” says Elena Galey-Pride, Director of Customer Experience.
International Architecture Award honours Southbrook Vineyards
September 7, 2009 – Southbrook Vineyards’ hospitality pavilion joins only three other Canadian projects for this honour. In total, 97 projects from 30 countries were chosen by the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design, Metropolitan Arts Press Ltd., and The European Center for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies for what are termed "the world's most prestigious architecture awards." Diamond and Schmitt Architects Inc. were also honoured last year for the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto.
“We are really pleased as this award proves that you can choose to build in an environmentally-sound way, and you can do it beautifully,” said co-owner and project manager Marilyn Redelmeier. Newspaper report and News release
Yes, it’s gorgeous, it’s glamorous, it’s green, and it’s the newest winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake. But what we have undertaken in the heart of Niagara wine country is so much more than building a new winery – we are building our dream.
Our roots are in agriculture. From a base in Richmond Hill, we have travelled a path from cattle, to a farm market, to making VQA wines and fruit wines. Now we take another step in our evolution. We continue to invest in Ontario agriculture with two contiguous 75 acre parcels in Niagara-on-the-Lake which we are farming organically and biodynamically. With these purchases we can now make better choices for the vines, the wines and the environment.
Southbrook is a new winery – with history. We have great depth in the bottle, and a new and creative team dedicated to taking us places we’ve only dreamed of.
We really want to share all this with you. Please join us here in Niagara-on-the-Lake to experience our dream, on your journey to wine enthusiasm.

Southbrook’s striking pavilion houses distinctive event spaces for private and corporate use.
The centerpiece of our private tasting room is a beautiful custom-made oak table that comfortably seats 12. This special space offers you a bird’s-eye view of the vineyard while surrounded by the warmth of oak barrels. The Great Room is in the heart of the Pavilion and seats 60 people with views of the vineyard, the demonstration kitchen, the wine library and a glass barrel vault. Larger groups can enjoy an outdoor event on our East Terrace.
Please call to discuss the wide range of possibilities (from Sommelier-led wine tastings to personalized wine pairing dinner menus). Speak to our Manager of Group Experiences, Michael Nazareth, at 1.888.581.1581 or 905.641.2548 ext. 232, or email groupexp@southbrook.com.
